Discounted energy efficient lighting for households
If you replace old lights with new energy efficient lights such as LEDs, you can reduce your electricity bill by hundreds of dollars a year.
The NSW Government has launched a lighting upgrade offer for households.
The purpose of the offer is to help eligible households replace old lights with new LED bulbs. The cost of the LED bulbs and the fee for installation is subsidised.

The Office of Environment and Heritage connects customers to Accredited Certificate Providers (ACPs) within their region who are eligible to undertake works under the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS). ACPs under the ESS are subject to the legislation, regulations and rules governing the ESS, as well as any further conditions imposed by the ESS regulator, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART).
OEH specifies the requirements that ACPs must meet under the ESS. Consequently, ACPs are obligated to deal with any and all issues arising from works undertaken under the ESS. By taking part in this program, the customer acknowledges and agrees that OEH does not have any legal liability whatsoever connected to the deliverables associated with this program, and also discharges OEH from all actions, proceedings, claims, demands, costs, losses, damages, and expenses the customer may potentially incur through this program.
How will this help my household?
Switching to LEDs will help you reduce your energy consumption. This means you can expect to see long term cost savings on your bills.
For example, if you change 20 halogen downlights, to LED downlights, you can save up to $210 a year on energy costs.
Other benefits include reduced maintenance, because LEDs last longer than other bulbs, and lowering your environmental impact.
Check if your home is eligible
To access the offer, you will need to contact an approved supplier. Suppliers may require a minimum number of lights to be upgraded to qualify for the discount.
Accessing the offer
When you contact an approved supplier, they will assess your lighting needs and give you a quote.
The supplier will assess your lighting needs either by phone, or by visiting your home. The supplier should contact you directly to arrange a time that suits you.
When you receive a quote, the lighting offer discount should be clearly displayed. If it isn’t, you should request that it be included.
You will need to make a minimum payment for the lighting upgrade. For households, the minimum is $30 + GST. You may be required to pay more, depending on the design of your home and the services the supplier provides.
It’s a good idea to request quotes from more than one supplier, to ensure you’re getting the best deal.
Get the upgrade
Your supplier will send a licensed electrician to install the new lights.
Old light globes, or any other equipment that is removed or replaced, must be recycled or disposed of by the supplier. This is to ensure that old, inefficient equipment is not used anywhere else.

The energy efficient lighting upgrades are part of the NSW Government energy affordability package. The purpose of the package is to help households and small businesses save energy and money.
